Is my voice completely lost among the incessant whines of spoiled teenage girls (some in their early 20s) complaining about pulled muscles, aching backs, or even concussions? Why is it that unless I am dead on the pool deck that it won’t be believed that I’m in pain, too? Everyone is in pain. Some people just don’t complain about it because really now, we’re not going to whine our way out of a swim set. I just can’t believe that right before swimming 20 100s, you buy that one girl has gotten a concussion from hitting her head (ON WHAT?) and let her go paddle around in the shallow end until practice is over. A little backstory: this girl first got concussions on a regular basis from getting hit in the head during practice/games last year. Eventually all of the many doctors she saw told her she couldn’t play. So she sat all of preseason out, then bought herself a bigass helmet to wear at all times so she can play again. Yet it doesn’t work anyway. Anyone who gets concussions that easily should 1) not be captain and 2) not be starting. In fact, she shouldn’t be playing water polo at all.
Why is it that the girls who give 110% in practice are completely ignored? They’re the ones creating the energy for the team and pushing themselves to encourage the rest of us to push ourselves. Yet all of this is brushed under the rug so that the favorites can be doted on. It’s wasted effort.
Since when has it been okay to ignore players on the team because you don’t like them? You’re in a leadership position, so set an example that you can’t be a team if you put the teammates in tiers. Creating cliques and acting exclusive should’ve been done for you a long time ago. Since when has it been okay to pretend not to hear someone’s justifications and continue to blame her for being lazy and stupid? I can’t believe I gave up two jobs for this and put so much time into it with so little reward. I can’t afford to mix up my priorities and jeopardize my future anymore.
